Why I chose Animas
An interesting fact is that I didn't actually choose Animas. In fact, I didn't chose to come to Durango either. My family and I moved to Durango from Maui, Hawaii the summer of 2012. I was born and raised in Maui up until we moved here so naturally I was very upset to leave my home. For the first month or so living in Durango was miserable. I was unquestionably home sick and I didn't know anyone. Later, I learned that I would be attending Animas and I got even more miserable because not only was I new to my surroundings and to Durango itself, but now I would also be new to a school. I thought that I was going to hate everything about school and Durango in general until I became friends with the people in my neighborhood. They understood that I was homesick but they showed me the good about Durango. They made me feel welcomed and helped me become happier with my new life. I had the same experience once I started school at Animas. Everyone I encountered was kind, fun, accepting and completely awesome. I loved my teachers because I was able to go to them whenever I needed anything and because they actually made learning fun. It is because of this that I grew to love Animas and I knew that I did not want to go to any other school. In the end, I not only grew to love Animas but to love Durango and the people here as well. Animas and Durango have made me a better person and I want to continue to grow through my journey at Animas and in Durango.
