Optical Illusion and Perspective Photography
Artist Statement
Through my photography I aim to provide a new perspective on different things. In my photo, I use optical illusion and a perspective that forces you to look beyond the obvious and at the piece as a whole. In my photo, it looks like the girl has a flower for a skirt but in reality she is not actually wearing a flower skirt. I took a flower, held it in front of my camera and while the girl was leaning against the tree almost 3-4 feet away. I carefully lined up the flower with the girl in order to make it look like it was her skirt. I then set my camera to focus on the flower so that the girl in the background would be slightly blurred. By doing this, when you look at the picture as a whole, at first you think the girl is just wearing a skirt but when you look at it more intensely, it forces you to look at it from a different angle and you form a new perspective and recognize the optical illusion.
Personally, I love this type of photography mainly for the reason I stated above, that it forces you to open your eyes to the optical illusion. Through this type of photography I hope to encourage people to look beyond what is in front of them and recognize new perspectives.
