LINK Project Proposal
For my LINK internship I will be working with Adaptive Sports in Durango, Colorado. Adaptive Sports is an organization that helps enrich and transform the loves of people who have disabilities through sports such as skiing, snowboarding, mono-skiing, rafting, kayaking and many more winter and summer sports. By being able to do these sports with the help of supportive and fun people, it gives clients the chance to have a good time and to build things like self-esteem, confidence, physical fitness and to create long-lasting relationships. My mentor, Ann Marie has been with Adaptive Sports for many years and takes part in almost every aspect of the organization. She does lessons, sets up lessons, conducts events, and also works in the office at times.
My goals for my internship with Adaptive sports are the following: Learn how to properly behave and work in an adult environment, to learn to work hard and have fun at the same time, learn to do quality and beneficial work in an adult work environment, to further improve social skills with both adults and people with disabilities, learn how to insure a safe environment for clients, get to know everyone I work with, to turn in a quality project that will benefit Adaptive Sports, and lastly to have fun. I feel that I can accomplish all of these goals with the help of my mentor because she also started as an intern and now practically runs the organization. I feel like Ann Marie and I will get along very well based from our interviews together and I am excited to learn whatever I can from her and all the other employees I will be working with.
My project for my LINK internship is sort of a mix of things. I will be taking pictures and videos of clients and employees that will be added to the Adaptive Sports website in order to enhance the media coverage on their website. I will also take video footage of an event that will take place on the 8th of March. I will then make a video from this footage, which will serve, as media coverage for this event and that will hopefully make the event more known throughout the community. I will also try to get the Durango Herald to come cover the event so that it gets as much publicity as it can in order to get more supporters and that it gets more people to know about the organization and event. Lastly, I might be able to make a racecourse for clients to ski or snowboard on. This would be a minor thing but it would insure happiness to clients and I would get experience in the hands on aspect of the organization.
In order for my LINK project to come together, I will need to connect with the Durango Herald in a timely manner and I will also need access to a camera in order to film the event. Luckily, I have a friend willing to lend me his camera for LINK so this will not be a problem. Another factor is making the video a quality video. To insure a good video, I plan to have my friends who have experience with making videos, give me tips and critique my work so that I produce a quality piece.
Reflection: I have not had many obstacles within setting up my LINK internship other than not having many ideas for a project for quite sometime. I was able to overcome this problem by setting up a face-to-face meeting with my mentor and gathering her ideas on the matter. In conclusion, I cannot wait to learn everything I can about this organization and I cannot wait to meet new people. I am very happy that I have the opportunity for this experience and I am also happy about the idea of my project. I am very excited to be working with Adaptive Sports and Ann Marie and I cannot wait to begin my internship on Monday!
