Personal Philosophy Project Credo and Proposal
Part 1: Personal Philosophy Credo
I believe that the main purpose of my existence is to define meaning and happiness for myself and to find myself and who I am as an individual.. I believe that finding happiness and meaning should be unique for each and every individual and that these things should not be defined by anyone but ourselves. However, I do believe that inspiration from others and their philosophies can help shape an individual's definition of happiness and meaning. Life experiences may also help shape our ideas on personal happiness and meaning. I find happiness by doing things I love such as skiing, socializing, drawing, snorkeling, and many other things. I also find happiness by trying new and exciting things and surrounding myself with people I love and appreciate. By gaining happiness from these things, I find meaning. I find meaning by doing the things I love because they make me happy. I find meaning by spending time with certain people because those relationships make me happy and when those relationships benefit my happiness, they become meaningful. I believe that happiness and meaning contribute to each other and rely on each other in a sense. In my case, I don’t have one or the other but I have both because by having one, I also have the other. I also believe that the continuous quest for finding myself and who I am will lead to happiness and meaning. As I continue to shape who I am, I find happiness and meaning and as I find meaning and happiness, I continue to shape myself and find what is true to me. These essential questions all play into one another because based on my personal experiences, I find that when I discover one of these things, I find the others as well. I have also found that you can’t have one without the other. For example, if you aren’t happy with something, most the time it isn’t very meaningful. Usually when something or someone means something to you, it is because they make you happy. All in all, I believe that by searching for individual happiness and meaning, that quest becomes the overall purpose of your existence.
Part 3: Project Proposal
1. Write your personal philosophy credo in 1-2 sentences
- Finding the purpose of your life is finding what happiness and meaning is to you.
2. What median do you want to use to clearly express your philosophy to an audience at the all-school exhibition?
- Visual art piece
3. How is the median creative and representative of your authentic or unique self?
-I want to show all the things the mean something to me and make me happy, by doing this, it will be authentic. However, I do not know specifically what the visual art piece will be at this moment.
4. What impression do you want to make on your audience? What do you want them to remember most about your presentation/project?
-I guess I would like my audience to be able to relate to my credo and hopefully they get to know me better through my project because it will reflect my credo.
5. Describe your idea in as much detail as possible
-I don’t have a set idea at the moment but my vague idea is that I could make a drawing of my personal path to happiness and meaning. It would contain things I like to do and pictures of things I love and people I love. It would probably be a collage of some sort.
6. What obstacles do you think you will encounter in creating this project?
-If I choose to draw my project, I might struggle because I love drawing but sometimes I get annoyed and I struggle. I might also struggle with ideas on how to my project will look and come together.
7. What materials do you need to create your project?
-I am not completely sure yet. I am not 100% sure on what my project is going to be yet (my visual piece) Most likely art supplies.
8. How much time will this project take to create?
-Again, I am not 100% sure. Depending on how much time I have to work on it seeing as we have homework in other classes as well. It also depends on how much time I put into working on it. I think if I put the right amount of time and effort into it, it could take maybe a week and a half or a little more.
9. What do you need from Ashley to help you succeed?
-Ideas! :)
